چکیده

This work uses a higher-order discontinuous-Galerkin finite-element method to solve the compressible Navier-Stokes equations [1,2]. The unsteady Navier-Stokes equations are discretized using a non-linearly stable space-time entropyvariable formulation. The inviscid flux is computed using the approximate Riemann solver of Ismail and Roe [3]. The viscous fluxes are computed using an interior penalty (IP) method equivalent to the second form of Bassi and Rebay (BR2) [4]. Evaluation of the integrals appearing in the DG formulation are performed using a dealiased quadrature rule using 2N points in each direction where N is the solution order (in either space or time). The nonlinear problem arising at each time-slab is solved using a Jacobian-free Newton-Krylov method using a diagonalized-ADI preconditioner [5]. Results are presented using the space-time formulation with accuracy up to 16th order (N = 16) in both space and time.

Simulating Flow over Periodic Hills Using a Dual-Mesh Hybrid Solver with High-Order LES

In this work, we present a hybrid solver coupling a high-order LES solver with Cartesian mesh and a RANS solver with body-fitting mesh. This hybrid solver is developed within a dual-mesh consistent hybrid framework, where LES and RANS simulations for the same flow are conducted simultaneously on different computational domains and different meshes. In the LES, an immersed boundary method with r...

Stratified Flow over Topography: Wave Generation and Boundary Layer Separation

We have performed laboratory experiments to study wave generation over and in the lee of model topography. We have chosen to use periodic, finite-amplitude hills which are representative of the Earth’s major mountain ranges as well as the repetitious topographic features of the ocean floor. The topographic shapes are selected to encompass varying degrees of roughness, from smoothly-varying sinu...

Prospective study of port wine stain treatment with dye laser: comparison of two wavelengths (585 nm vs. 595 nm) and two pulse durations (0.5 milliseconds vs. 20 milliseconds).

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The conventional pulsed-dye laser (wavelength 585 nm, pulse duration 0.5 milliseconds) is seen as the standard treatment for port wine stains (PWS). Using the pulsed-dye laser at wavelengths of 590, 595, and 600 nm and at varying pulse durations of 1.5-40 milliseconds is one of the newest developments in the field, the therapeutic value of which has been examined in on...

Hopf bifurcations to quasi-periodic solutions for the two-dimensional plane Poiseuille flow

This paper studies various Hopf bifurcations in the two-dimensional plane Poiseuille problem. For several values of the wavenumber α, we obtain the branch of periodic flows which are born at the Hopf bifurcation of the laminar flow. It is known that, taking α ≈ 1, the branch of periodic solutions has several Hopf bifurcations to quasi-periodic orbits. For the first bifurcation, previous calcula...
